What is the most valuable thing you gained from this program?

On my way to Perugia, I was in complete disbelief that I was spending my summer living in Italy. It seemed like a vacation. However, it was the exact opposite. Becoming so deeply immersed in a new culture and way of life changes how you view the rest of the world. I cannot thank Perugia enough for becoming my second home.

What is unique about this program?

Perugia is a small, hilltop town with three different universities. The Italians who live in the town are accustomed to so many college students and are, therefore, even more welcoming than you'd expect. While many students choose to study abroad in Florence or Rome, the tourism of those locations overshadow the importance of becoming a part of the Italian culture and lifestyle. In Perugia, you are truly living and thriving, and are never bored.

How do you see this experience helping you in your future career or academic goals?

When you live abroad, you get a new pair of glasses to see the world with. Upon arrival, I expected the Italians to accommodate me and my role as a US student. However, you soon come to learn that the world doesn't revolve around the US and that you must adapt to the culture you are partaking in. I think this type of firsthand wisdom is unparalleled in the workforce and will be indispensable.
